Review:
Disco has a title song that goes two steps ahead but the difference is the lyricist churns out something crass. Cinema is entertainment, fine. But in an attempt to evoke humour by showing every person as a fool, the writer forgets that he has made the hero a bigger fool.
Leaving this aside one really wonders if the writer had a story in the first place. The beginning scene is inspired from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara where the hero pushes out his pals of a private jet to portray their love for life and freedom.
Nikhil looks smart, far better infact best from his previous films but sadly he chooses a subject that has nothing that deserves mention. Nikhil's name is Disco according to the commentary, as soon as he was born the lights in the hospital room glimmered and shimmered like the disco lights. A further elaboration of his character and the story - he sees a girl in India and falls for her and she challenges that if he wants to win over her he must come to Bangkok and propose right in his father's presence and security.
The hero with his three friends land in Bangkok only to realise that the girl is in love with someone else, our man now thinks of uniting the lovers but before that as in many films attempts to make her fall in love with him. If the story sounds simple, there is a slight complication and that is Disco had stolen the money from the girl's father's aide in India to reach the place and he is all the while keeping the matter under wraps lest the girl's father might go berserk.
The bankruptcy of the director comes across very well in the intro itself. MS Narayana plays Surya Bhai of Businessman and within minutes he utters and covers all the popular dialogues from the film and states he is here to make Hyderabad urinate. The fascination for the characters to relieve themselves within regular intervals continue and there is a possibility that you could throw up at a certain scene. The heroine is not behind in using the repulsive terminology.
Raghu Babu's role and that of his wife in the story sparks off a migraine. Nikhil takes a cue from the popular heroes and takes of Kulam and covers it up as Yuvakulam, he also freaks out taking a dig of two of his colleagues from Happy Days. Cheap thrills are being encouraged and how!
Sarah Sharma looks older to Nikhil and is far from beautiful. The police denigrating themselves is gross. What begins as a story of a few friends whose job is loan recovery and what ends by the time you wind up watching the film is a recovery of senses. Disco is a film that one would love to forget.
Final Word:
Disco is aimed at B,C center audience and we are afraid that even they won’t be satisfied with purposeless action comedy film. Also there is serious threat from the heavyweights like Racha and Dammu. Disco will need a miracle to enter the safe zone and let us see if it happens this time to bail out Nikhil.
