Rowthiram(2011)Tamil Movie

Review:
Rowthiram  is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language action film written and directed by newcomer Gokul. Produced by R. B. Choudary, the film stars his son Jeeva and Shriya Saran in lead roles with Jayaprakash and Ganesh Acharya appearing in supporting roles. It released on August 12, 2011. It is also being dubbed into Telugu as Roudram. The movie has released to moderate reviews.

Production

The film's shooting was held in various places in Tamil Nadu. The team had canned some scenes in the temple town Villianur. Reportedly some portions of this film was re-shot after Jeeva's previous venture Ko became a high success.

Release (Critical Response)

The film received average and negative reviews from critics. Behindwoods gave 2/5 star rating and said "Rowthiram has positives going in its favor. If the screen play had been more linear and taut, it would have made a huge impact." further citing "Some scenes are neatly done especially the family and the romance blocks. However, these are not sufficient to buoy the story up as there is inconsistency in the pace. While the first half fairly manages to hold the attention, Gokul stutters to keep the audience hooked in the second half and his struggle to move the film forward becomes evident. The long action sequences also exhausts. The snag for Rowthiram comes from its lengthiness."[4] Rohit Ramachandran of nowrunning.com rated it 3/5 stars and explained "Rowthiram has a run-of-the-mill story. What makes the film different is it being in the hands of a director who is willing to consider stepping outside the box once in a while if not completely abandoning it. " Pavithra Srinivasan of Rediff gave a score of 2/5 and noted that "The problem with most Tamil debutant directors trying to ape trend-setters like Mani Ratnam, Sasikumar, Gautam Menon, etc. is that they faithfully imitate the production values, but end up messing up the characterisations and storyline. And when the end product is also supposed to be an old-fashioned masala in a new tetra-pack, even the fact that the hero is someone who can actually act, can't save it. This is pretty much the problem that afflicts Super Good Films' Rowthiram(Fury), written and directed by Gokul.
